I think couples should have a common activity that they both enjoy, that’s what we did when we started biking about 3 years ago. I was very hesitant at first because I didn’t know how to bike — or I already forgot — because I think it was in high school when I first rode a bike. But just as he was patient with me when I first learned how to drive, he was just as patient in helping me regain my confidence in riding a bike. So, it only took us one weekend to practice, and immediately the following weekend he said:
“Let’s go biking along Molino Boulevard!” I thought we were going to bring a car then park and go biking. But he said no. He said we will ride our bikes from our house to Molino Boulevard and back.
I was like, “Oh, how will I do that? Is that even possible? I only had one weekend to learn and now we’re going out into the main road?”
But he was so full of confidence in me that I can do it, haha!
So, off we went. I was so scared of the vehicles who didn’t want to share the road. This was before there were bike lanes in Molino Boulevard. But I survived it, haha!
There is a nearby memorial park where lots of people go walking and biking, and that’s where we usually go. We spend one hour to two hours biking from the house to Molino Boulevard then to the memorial park and back. One time we tried going to Daang Hari but the road was so difficult. We need lots of training before we can conquer that road. Daang Reyna was a more “beginner-biker” friendly road.
It’s a good bonding as a couple and I will advise it to anyone looking for a common activity with their spouses or partners. So why don’t you try it? Go and grab your bikes that are just sitting in your garage!
