Last Hurrah for Summer 2010: Canyon Cove Resort

A family outing in Canyon Cove Resort in Nasugbu, Batangas last 29-30 May was a  wonderful way to end summer.  We’ve been there last year, but we didn’t stay overnight, we were just given a day tour pass for spending the night in Canyon Woods, and since we liked what we saw then, we decided go there for our family outing for this year.
We arrived early because we were hoping to get a room even before the scheduled check-in time of 3:00pm. When we got there, we were overwhelmed by too many people, lots of Coca-cola tents, and too crowded pool, then, we learned that there was a Family Day hosted by Coca-cola for its employees.  The cavanas were also reserved for them, as well as the swimming pool — but I guess, just some areas because they really couldn’t stop other people or kids from jumping into the pool and ask if they were with Coca-cola or not.  So, what else can we do? Pictorial, of course!

The heat was unbearable, we could hardly wait for our rooms to be available, and we were lucky because we were able to get our rooms by 11:00am.  The room was spacious,  big enough for 5 people, and I liked best their window bed which could accomodate 3 kids. What I didn’t like were the coconut trees which blocked our view of the sea and the sunset.  But nonetheless, we still enjoyed watching the sunset.  Camping tents near the shore while waiting for the sunset would have been a great idea, and my adventurous side would like to try it in the future.

Although the resort was big, they should limit their walk-in and day tour guests because it makes the resort too crowded and it seemed unfair for the overnight guests. The food was also quite expensive, and paying Php650 for buffet was not worth it because of the very limited food choices, and since there were too many people, they couldn’t keep up with their food replenishment.  So, what did we do?  Of course, we ate outside the resort. Where? Chowking and Jollibee.
Despite the crowd, the kids still enjoyed swimming, I think it was because they knew that what’s more important was their being together.

We had so much fun on Sunday morning. It was our first time to ride a kayak, and I was really very hesitant at first, but I still tried even for just a few minutes.  We didn’t even make it very far from the shore, because I got really scared of open sea and was imagining things like being swept by big waves!  But the others really enjoyed themselves. They took turns and were even lucky because my friend who was also in the resort gave us their kayak when her husband got tired way before their time limit.  So, my family got to enjoy two kayak for themselves!

An overnight stay is good, but two nights would have been better, and I think, for the kids, any place will do, for as long as they have lots of bonding moments together.  Going home was the difficult part because that’s what they didn’t like. They kept on asking, “Where are we going after this?”.

After leaving the resort, we went to Mahogany Market in Tagaytay —- I guess we just had to, in order to appease the kids.  It was as if they wouldn’t have other opportunities to be together.  And when it was finally time to go home, I had to make promises, especially to Faye, that they’ll see each other sooner than she thought.
