Last night, at around 11:00pm, we suddenly lost electricity at home. My son knocked on our door and informed us that our house was the only one without electricity, and true enough, when we looked out the window, all our neighbors’ houses had power.
We went down to the ground floor and my husband checked our circuit breaker, he turned it off, and turned it on again, but nothing happened. He checked the main cable outside, but he couldn’t see any problem. We suspected the main cable because it was damaged by the strong typhoon last year, and we also lost electricity for two days. Another probable cause was the electric meter outside. Last January, we noticed that our lights were blinking, and it got worse each day, so, we had it checked by the electrician. We were very worried because we knew how dangerous it is to have unsecured electrical wires, that’s why we also knew the importance of having fire extinguishers at home. The electrician checked the cables but he didn’t find anything wrong with them, until he checked the electric meter. He was very surprised to find a dead lizard inside the electric meter which caused the wires to spark and lose contact.
So, last night, those were the two probable cause that we suspected. I immediately called up MERALCO to report what happened. We were told to wait for 2 to 4 hours for the repair men. I couldn’t imagine going back to sleep because it was really so hot. Fortunately, after only about one hour, I received a call from the repair man asking directions to our house. He checked the main cable but there was no problem with it. He also checked if there was incoming voltage to our house, but there was none. His last option was to check the electric meter, and true enough, when he opened it, the wires were cut and had lost connection. He then immediately fixed it, and was finished in less than 30 minutes. Good thing, they didn’t have much assignments and they were able to proceed to our place in less than two hours.
What a relief!
