It has always been my dream to have my own business, however small it may be.My ideas in the past have been varied.I had put up a computer shop years ago, but since it wasn’t earning that much, I had to close it when I was able to get employment in a reputable institution.Three yeas ago, I opened a shop in a mall near my place, where I sold hair accessories, beaded jewelries, and other things that cater to the young market segment. It didn’t last long because of lack of capital. Since it was located in a mall, it was difficult to sustain the payment for the rent.I realized that the measly income that I was getting from the sales of my items were not enough to cover the rent and the other utilities.
In between these business ventures, my husband was also into corporate giveaways as his sideline. He concentrates in his business during the Christmas season when a lot of companies are sourcing for giveaways for their clients. This business has a lot of potential, but it also requires capital especially in procuring samples to be given to prospective clients, and in building up our portfolio. That’s the reason why this year, we are planning of availing one of the small business loans being offered in the market. We know that with proper planning and the right business plan, we can be assured that availing of a small business loan will have a big advantage in our business.

Nice post. This will be very helpful since I want to run a business soon. It has also been a dream of mine. I know it’ll be a challenging at times, so I can use all the financial (and non-financial) advice I can get. Lately I’ve been thinking about buying a business instead of starting one from scratch. I believe I have enough capital saved, but I’m sure I’ll have to take out a loan. Any suggestions? Advice? Thanks.
@Lynn — I suggest checking out some other online resources. There’s one called BizTrader.com, which is an online global marketplace where you can buy or sell a business, since you’re interested in that. It also has other advice, and you can use it to find a lender, broker, accountant, etc.
You can also check out local small business groups. They can be very helpful, and it’s always good to network.
Good luck!
